KAMLOOPS — Kamloops RCMP say one person is suspected to have died last night (June 8) after a large house fire ignited along Hook Road east of Kamloops.

Kamloops RCMP Media Relations Officer Cst. Crystal Evelyn said Tk’emlups Rural RCMP were notified of the fire in the 1200 block of Hook Road in Monte Creek around 8:30 p.m Tuesday evening.

Before firefighters arrived on scene, the flames grew to be visible from the Trans Canada Highway.

The Pritchard Volunteer Fire Department said the Hook Road area is out of its jurisdiction, so permission to respond was quickly obtained from the Thompson Nicola Regional District. Three trucks and a dozen personnel arrived on scene last night, with several members mopping up overnight and into the morning.

As of Wednesday (June 9) afternoon, Cst. Evelyn said the scene is being held for the coroner’s investigation.

“One person is suspected to be deceased sadly.” Evelyn explained, “And no criminality is suspected at this time.”

No other injuries have been reported as a result of the fire.
