Liam Payne Opens Up

Liam Payne opened up on The Diary of a CEO podcast on Sunday, June 6th, about experiencing suicidal ideation and alcohol issues during his time in One Direction.

The former boy band singer shared, “I was worried how far my rock bottom was going to be. Where’s rock bottom for me? And you would never have seen it. I’m very good at hiding it. No one would ever have seen it.”

He recalled that it was physically evident that he was “all bloated out” with what he called his “pills-and-booze face”  Payne admitted, “I just didn’t like myself very much and then I made a change.”

Payne explained to host Stephen Bartlett that one reason his drinking got out of control was because the members of One Direction were often kept in their hotel rooms at night, so he passed the time by hitting the minibar.

In fact, he claims he gained so much weight during lockdown, that he started telling people he was bulking up for a movie role, adding, “That’s the best excuse if anyone asks if you’ve put on weight, say, ‘It’s for a role. It’s coming out 2022.’”
