B.C. COVID-19 caseload drops below 2,000; 148 new cases found Wednesday

VICTORIA — B.C. has recorded another 148 cases of COVID-19, but its active caseload has dropped below 2,000 for the first time in months.

Figures reported by Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry show 32 new cases Wednesday (June 9) in Interior Health.

The new cases bring B.C.’s overall total to 145,843 cases, spread out as follows:

  • 35,178 — Vancouver Coastal (up by 23)
  • 84,943 — Fraser Health (up by 75)
  • 5,096 — Island Health (up by 10)
  • 12,693 — Interior Health (up by 32)
  • 7,732 — Northern Health (up by 8)
  • 200 — Reside outside of Canada (unchanged)

Henry notes there are 1,975 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C., a decrease of 76 from Tuesday. There are 195 patients in hospital and 47 in intensive care.

Within Interior Health, there are 366 active cases, down by two from Tuesday. There are 13 people in hospital and eight in critical care.

Three more people have died of the virus, raising the B.C. death toll to 1,725. The Interior Health death toll remains at 152.

A total of 142,106 people are considered fully recovered from the virus, or 97 per cent of all recorded cases.

Henry notes first-dose vaccination rates are up to 74.5 per cent for adults in B.C. and 72.4 per cent for anyone aged 12 or older.
