WILLIAMS LAKE, B.C. — RCMP are lauding a group of Williams Lake Secondary students for helping extinguish a burgeoning forest fire last week.

On Thursday morning, RCMP members were alerted to a fire start behind 1400 Broadway Ave. South. Two members arrived at the scene to find smoke billowing.

The Mounties retrieved the fire extinguishers from their vehicles but, when they climbed the hill to the fire, they found several trees and a part of the ground on fire.

Nearby was a secondary class out for a hike.
