KAMLOOPS — The latest totals from the City of Kamloops Building Inspection Division show plenty of construction activity in the city — just not at the same record-setting level of a year ago.

Totals for the month of May show the department issued $17.1 million in permits. The bulk of those permits — $13.5 million — were for new housing construction.

The local construction sector set records in 2020, driven by construction at the Royal Inland Hospital Patient Care Tower. At this time last year, the department had issued $108.8 million in permits. The year-to-date total for the first five months in 2021 is $61.5 million.
