B.C. COVID-19 case count grows by 194; 33 in Interior Health

VICTORIA — For the second consecutive day, B.C. has recorded fewer than 200 new cases of COVID-19.

In a prepared statement, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry reports 194 new cases in the province Wednesday (June 2), including 33 within Interior Health.

Overall, B.C. has recorded 144,667 cases of the virus, spread out as follows:

• 34,947 — Vancouver Coastal (up by 33)
• 84,315 — Fraser Health (up by 122)
• 5,062 — Island Health (up by 2)
• 12,454 — Interior Health (up by 33)
• 7,689 — Northern Health (up by 4)
• 200 — Reside outside of Canada (unchanged)

Henry reports an active COVID-19 caseload of 2,662, a decrease of 138 from Tuesday. There are 246 people in hospital and 70 in intensive care.

Within Interior Health, there are 408 active cases, a decrease of 13 from Tuesday. There are 15 people in hospital and 8 in critical care.

Four more people have died of the virus, lifting the B.C. death toll to 1,707. One of the deaths occurred in Interior Health, raising the regional death toll to 151.

A total of 140,238 people are considered fully recovered from COVID-19, or 97 per cent of all cases.

The province notes 71.1 per cent of adults and 68 per cent of those aged 12 or older have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine.
