Province records lowest daily COVID-19 case count since October with 184 new infections

VICTORIA — B.C. has recorded its lowest daily COVID-19 case count in more than eight months.

In a prepared update, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry says B.C. found 184 cases of COVID-19 Tuesday (June 1), including 19 in Interior Health.

Overall, the province has recorded 144,473 cases of the virus since the pandemic began, spread out thusly:

• 34,914 — Vancouver Coastal (up by 48)
• 84,193 — Fraser Health (up by 113)
• 5,060 — Island Health (up by 1)
• 12,421 — Interior Health (up by 19)
• 7,684 — Northern Health (up by 2)
• 200 — Reside outside of Canada (up by 1)

Henry noted the active caseload in B.C. is down to 2,800, a decrease of 153 from Monday. There are 254 patients in hospital and 80 in intensive care.

Within Interior Health, there are 421 active cases of COVID-19, a decrease of 21 from Monday. There are 14 people in hospital and eight in critical care.

B.C.’s death toll did not grow, remaining at 1,703. The Interior Health death toll remains at 150.

A total of 139,899 people are considered fully recovered from COVID-19, or 97 per cent of all recorded cases.

Henry says 3.3 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered, meaning 70.4 per cent of all adults in B.C. and 67 per cent of all ages 12 and older have received at least one dose. The second dose total is now 191,222.
