Merritt dumpster fire epidemic grows

MERRITT, B.C. — The Merritt Fire department responded to yet another dumpster fire in the City on Monday (May 31) afternoon behind the Railyard Mall on Coldwater Avenue.

Chief Dave Tomkinson was first on the scene and was able to shut the dumpster’s lids to contain the blaze. Shortly thereafter the crews arrived on scene and quickly doused the flames.

“We’ve had about seven or eight dumpster fires in the past two months now,” recounted Chief Tomkinson. “It’s a bit of an oddity that this one occurred during the day.”
