KAMLOOPS — Kamloops RCMP say an arrest has been made in relation to a December 2019 shooting that injured one man.

In a release, Cst. Crystal Evelyn says on May 21, 2021, police executed an unendorsed arrest warrant for an investigation related to a shooting incident on December 30, 2019. At the time, officers were called to the 300-block of Alexander Avenue where a 24-year-old man had been found with gunshot wounds.

The shooting was believed to be targeted, and the residence, and people involved were known to police. Since then, Evelyn says the Kamloops RCMP Serious Crime Unit has continued to investigate and assembled a case for charge recommendations to the BC Prosecution Service.

Charges were eventually approved and an arrest warrant was issued on May 21. Around 3:30 p.m that afternoon, police found and arrested the accused near the North Shore Community Policing Office.

RCMP say 23-year-old Tristan Alan Olson was arrested for the following offences:

  • discharge a firearm with the intent to wound, maim, or disfigure a person
  • aggravated assault
  • use a firearm while committing or attempting to commit aggravated assault or while fleeing afterwards
  • possess a firearm without a license or registration to do so
  • possess a firearm knowing the serial number was altered, defaced, or removed.

Olson was remanded in custody, with his next court appearance scheduled for Thursday (June 3).
