B.C. averages 236 cases of COVID-19 per day over the weekend; total of 113 found in Interior Health

VICTORIA — B.C. has recorded 708 new cases of COVID-19 over the past three days, including 113 cases in Interior Health.

Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry made the announcement at a news conference Monday (May 31). There were 258 new cases found Saturday, 238 on Sunday and 212 on Monday, an average of 236 each day.

Overall, there have been 144,289 total cases of COVID-19 found in B.C. since the pandemic began, spread out as follows:

  • 34,866 — Vancouver Coastal (up by 140)
  • 84,080 — Fraser Health (up by 394)
  • 5,059 — Island Health (up by 18)
  • 12,402 — Interior Health (up by 113)
  • 7,682 — Northern Health (up by 41)
  • 199 — Reside outside of Canada (up by 1)

There are 2,953 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C. Monday, a decrease of 488 from Friday. There are 249 people in hospital and 78 in critical or intensive care.

Within Interior Health, there are 442 active cases, a decrease of 65 from Friday. There are 13 people in hospital and eight in critical care.

Eleven more people have died of the virus in B.C., raising the provincial death toll to 1,703. The Interior Health death toll remains at 150.

A total of 139,562 people are considered fully recovered from COVID-19, or 97 per cent of all recorded cases.

Henry began her briefing reports by noting 3,250,116 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered to British Columbians, including 179,954 second doses.

She noted more than 3 million British Columbians have now received at least one dose of vaccine, representing 69.7 per cent of all eligible adults and 66.1 per cent of everyone eligible aged 12 or older.
