Imitation firearms highlight Kamloops RCMP’s weekend

KAMLOOPS — Kamloops RCMP responded to approximately 455 calls for service from midnight on Friday, May 21, to 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 25, 2021. Below are some highlights from those calls.

Nerf gun gets two adults stopped by police

Police received two reports involving a potential weapon at Hillside Drive and Victoria Street Monday evening. One of the reports described the gun as a toy, the other as a rifle that was allegedly pointed at someone from a vehicle.

The alleged vehicle was later found in the alleyway on Seymour Street and Sixth Avenue, potential weapon was identified as an orange Nerf gun.

Handgun report leads to wanted man’s arrest

A man was arrested following a report involving a potential handgun in Riverside Park Monday evening.

Officers responded to the Lorne Street area where a man in dark clothes and a green hat had allegedly been holding what appeared to be a pistol and walking toward two people.

A BB gun was allegedly tucked in his waistband and seized by police.

The 30-year-old Kamloops man also had a warrant for failing to comply with probation. He was remanded in custody until his next court appearance in June.

Stolen vehicle recovered

A black Ford Focus hatchback reported as stolen from a driveway on Grand Road was recovered by police at a motel on the 1300-block of Columbia Street.

Friday morning, police received a report the vehicle was stolen after the keys for it had been left in another unlocked vehicle.

An off-duty police officer found the vehicle in a parking lot and frontline officers retrieved it on Sunday.
