B.C. COVID-19 case count grows by 250, including 40 in Interior Health

VICTORIA — B.C. has recorded 250 new COVID-19 cases Wednesday (May 26), including 40 found within Interior Health.

The totals are contained in an update prepared by Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry.

Overall, B.C. has seen 142,886 cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic began, spread out as follows:

  • 34,555 — Vancouver Coastal (up by 84)
  • 83,334 — Fraser Health (up by 109)
  • 5,027 — Island Health (up by 9)
  • 12,161 — Interior Health (up by 40)
  • 7,611 — Northern Health (up by 8)
  • 198 — Reside outside of Canada (unchanged)

There are 3,580 active cases of COVID-19 in the province, a decrease of 202 from Tuesday. There are 296 people in hospital, with 97 in intensive care.

Within Interior Health, there are 485 active cases, down by five from Tuesday. Fourteen people remain in hospital, with eight in critical care.

Three more people have died of the virus, raising the provincial death toll to 1,683. The Interior Health death toll remains at 150.

A total of 137,517 people are considered fully recovered from COVID-19, representing 96 per cent of all recorded cases.

Henry says 2,979,951 doses of COVID-19 have been administered to British Columbians, including 152,010 second doses.
