KAMLOOPS — Canadian National Railway (CN) unveiled when it will conduct its annual vegetation management program in summer 2021.

Certified applicators will be applying herbicides on and around the railway tracks, mainly the graveled area known as the ballast, but also on other areas where the right of way may be necessary for safety purposes.

The City of Kamloops will see work done between July 29 and Aug. 1, the District of Barriere between July 29 and 30, the District of Clearwater between July 29 and 30, the District of Lillooet between Aug. 3 and 5, and the Regional District of Thompson-Nicola electoral areas between July 28 and Aug. 1.

CN is required to clear its right-of-way from any vegetation that may pose a safety hazard. Part two of the Rules Respecting Track Safety adopted by Transport Canada provide that “vegetation on railway property, which is on or immediately adjacent to roadbed, must be controlled.”
