Two wildfires in the Kamloops Fire Centre to start May long weekend

KAMLOOPS — Two new wildfires emerged in the Kamloops Fire Centre as the Victoria Day long weekend began.
A 0.50-hectare fire near Annis Bay northeast of Salmon Arm and a 0.01-hectare fire near Mile Creek west of Kelowna were discovered Saturday (May 22). The Annis Bay fire is suspected to be human caused, while the Mile Creek fire is considered unknown.
Elsewhere, a 0.4-hectare fire near Dixon Mountain south of Barriere was declared under control after being out of control since May 16.
There are five active wildfires in the Kamloops Fire Centre, three are under control.
