Third Avenue pedestrian bridge to close for maintenance next week

KAMLOOPS — The City of Kamloops says two of the most recognizable landmarks of the Kamloops downtown will be given some much-needed maintenance this summer.

In a news release, the City says the Third Avenue pedestrian bridge over the C.P. rail tracks will be given a full facelift, including:

• concrete repairs
• handrail safety improvements
• plexiglass panels removal and replacement
• concrete sealing
• new paint

The City says a new colour scheme for the canary yellow bridge “will be a welcome sight” for people spending time in the downtown, as this is the first update for the structure in more than 20 years.

The first day of construction will be next Tuesday (May 25), with a projected completion in mid-July. Pedestrians will need to find other crossings of the C.P. tracks, as the bridge will be closed during the project.

In addition to the pedestrian bridge, the City notes Sandman Centre will also be given a fresh coat of paint.
