B.C. finds 411 new cases of COVID-19, with 69 in Interior Health

VICTORIA — B.C.’s active COVID-19 case load has dropped below 5,000.

In a prepared update, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry reports 411 new COVID-19 cases in B.C. Tuesday (May 18). There were 69 new cases in Interior Health.

Overall, the total COVID-19 case count for the province is now 140,075, spread out as follows:

  • 34,115 — Vancouver Coastal (up by 37)
  • 81,617 — Fraser Health (up by 285)
  • 4,959 — Island Health (up by 12)
  • 11,810 — Interior Health (up by 69)
  • 7,471 — Northern Health (up by 8)
  • 195 — Reside outside of Canada (unchanged)

There are 4,890 active cases of the virus in B.C., a decrease of 131 from Monday. There are 360 people in hospital and 127 in intensive care.

Within Interior Health, there are 476 active cases, an increase of 25 from Monday. There are 22 people in hospital and 13 in critical care.

Two more people have died of COVID-19, raising the B.C. death toll to 1,650. Neither of the deaths took place in Interior Health, leaving the regional death toll at 145.

A total of 133,383 people are considered fully recovered from COVID-19, or 95 per cent of all recorded cases.

The province has now administered 2,566,936 doses of all COVID-19 vaccines, including 131,837 second doses.
