Squeezed out of the Lower Mainland, building supply manufacturer sets sites on the Cariboo

LONE BUTTE, B.C. — A B.C.-based building supply company has purchased land near Lone Butte, with plans to build an industrial park.

In a news release, Omnitek Canada says it has acquired a 32-acre site at 7080 Watch Lake Road, serviced by the CN freight line between Prince George and Vancouver.

The company says a dwindling supply of industrial land in the Lower Mainland is forcing squeezed manufacturers to look elsewhere.

“The highest bidders for industrial land are warehouses for online retailers who need to be close to markets,” the company says.

Omnitek bills itself as a company focusing on “research, development and [production of] building materials that are sustainable and environmentally friendly.”

The company plans to use 14 acres of the Lone Butte site for its own manufacturing facility. It says the remainder of the site will be available in one-acre parcels for other entrepreneurs who wish “to process Cariboo resources before shipping them to market.”

“Other investors will join us. That’s not just our hope, that’s Omnitek’s business plan,” the company says.
