MERRITT, B.C. — Police encouraged Merritt residents to be vigilant and skeptical after a rise of online scams within the city in the first two weeks of May.
Merritt RCMP said scammers are doing everything they can to try to take money, including fake relationships that result in money requests, to selling items that don’t exist.
The amount of money residents lost ranges from $6,000 to $10,000. Anyone who believes they’re a victim of an online scam is asked to report it to the Merritt RCMP and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
