Tk’emlups members approve series of changes to voting rules

TK’EMLUPS — Looking ahead to an election for chief and council this fall, Tk’emlups te Secwepemc (TteS) members have made several changes to the community’s voting rules.
A total of 25 amendments were passed during a General Band Meeting this week, with voting taking place electronically.
In a news release, Kukpi7 (Chief) Rosanne Casimir described the most significant changes:
- Both on-reserve members and members who reside on traditional TteS territory can run for chief and council
- Electronic voting is now allowed
- Using electronic voting, elections can now be held during a declared State of Emergency
- Changes to electoral rules can now be made during a declared State of Emergency (e.g. changes to comply with Provincial Health Orders)
