Demi Lovato is now vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus. She posted a tweet of her wearing a mask and showing off her shot arm. She told fans that “it’s normal to be cautious.” She wrote: “Getting the vaccine came down to one thought process for me, I simply would rather risk potential side effects of a vaccine than risk lives by catching or spreading covid.”
Lovato is the latest star to post her COVID vaccine photo at a time when experts worry that the U.S. is likely to fall short of herd immunity.
FAST FACTS
- According to The New York Times, with more than half of the adults in the U.S. inoculated with at least one dose of the available vaccines, daily vaccination rates have been trending down.
- There is widespread consensus among scientists and public health experts that the herd immunity threshold is not attainable — at least not in the foreseeable future.
- Continued immunizations — especially at people at the highest risk because of their age, exposure or health status — is crucial to limit the potential outbreaks of the more virulent variants currently circulating in the country.
