B.C. finds 694 new cases of COVID-19, 52 within Interior Health

SURREY — B.C. has recorded 694 new cases of COVID-19 Thursday (May 6), including 52 within Interior Health.

The totals were revealed by Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry in a news conference Thursday afternoon.

The new cases raise the overall total to 133,619 cases in B.C. since the pandemic began, spread through the province as follows:

  • 32,715 — Vancouver Coastal (up by 153)
  • 77,400 — Fraser Health (up by 445)
  • 4,784 — Island Health (up by 17)
  • 11,249 — Interior Health (up by 52)
  • 7,277 — Northern Health (up by 27)
  • 193 — Reside outside of Canada (unchanged)

Henry reported 6,802 active cases of the virus Thursday, a decrease of 75 from Wednesday. There are 457 people in hospital and 154 in critical or intensive care.

There has been one more death from COVID-19 in B.C., raising the province’s death toll to 1,595. The death took place within Interior Health, increasing the regional death toll to 132.

A total of 125,025 people are considered fully recovered from the virus, or 94 per cent of all recorded cases.

Henry noted B.C. will surpass 2,000,000 COVID-19 vaccine doses administered Thursday. As of early in the day, the total administered to British Columbians was 1,995,496 doses.
