VANCOUVER — B.C. RCMP are telling the public about the first set of COVID-19 road checks set up to deter non-essential travel.

In a news release, the force says checks will be set up at four locations, beginning Thursday (May 6):

  • Highway 1 in the Boston Bar area
  • Highway 3 in the Manning Park area
  • Highway 5 in the Old Toll Booth area
  • Highway 99 in the Lillooet area

The roadblocks will enforce the government’s ban on non-essential travel outside of three designated regions — the Lower Mainland/Fraser Valley, Vancouver Island and the Interior/North.

RCMP say signage will be in place to alert drivers to the upcoming road blocks and U-turn routes will also be provided if drivers determine their travel is not essential.

Drivers will be asked for identification, documentation that shows the driver’s name and address, and the reason for travel.

If police determine the travel is not essential, the driver will be given the chance to turn back. Those who refuse may be subject to fines.
