Province records 697 COVID-19 cases; 65 found in Interior Health

VICTORIA — B.C. has found another 697 cases of COVID-19 Tuesday (May 4), including 65 within Interior Health.

The totals are included in a prepared statement from Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry.

Overall, B.C. has seen 132,353 total cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic began, spread through the province as follows:

  • 32,444 — Vancouver Coastal (up by 142)
  • 76,593 — Fraser Health (up by 456)
  • 4,745 — Island Health (up by 19)
  • 11,140 — Interior Health (up by 65)
  • 7,237 — Northern Health (up by 14)
  • 193 — Reside outside of Canada (unchanged)

There are 7,161 active cases of the virus in B.C. Tuesday, down by 166 from Monday. There are 486 people in hospital, including 173 in intensive care.

One more person has died of COVID-19, pushing the provincial death toll to 1,597.

Public health officials are monitoring 10,961 people due to direct COVID-19 exposure.

Another 123,383 people are considered fully recovered from the virus, or 93 per cent of all confirmed cases.

Henry notes 1,910,162 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered to British Columbians.

The province announced Tuesday that anyone aged 16 or older who is pregnant in B.C. is now eligible to receive COVID-19 vaccine at community clinics.
