B.C. averages 725 cases of COVID-19 over the weekend; 106 new cases in Interior Health

VANCOUVER — While intensive care admissions remain extremely high, there are some positive signs in the province’s fight against COVID-19.

In her news conference Monday (May 3), Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry reported 2,174 new cases of the virus — 835 on Saturday, 671 on Sunday and 668 on Monday. That averages out to about 725 per day.

There were 106 cases found within Interior Health over the three days.

Overall, B.C. has found 131,656 total cases of COVID-19, spread through the province as follows:

  • 32,302 — Vancouver Coastal (up by 438)
  • 76,137 — Fraser Health (up by 1,509)
  • 4,726 — Island Health (up by 61)
  • 11,075 — Interior Health (up by 106)
  • 7,223 — Northern Health (up by 60)
  • 193 — Reside outside of Canada (unchanged)

There are 7,327 active cases of COVID-19, a decrease of 559 from Friday. Henry reported 474 people in hospital and 176 in intensive care.

Within Interior Health, there are 562 active cases of the virus, a decrease of 82 from Friday. There are 29 people in hospital and 18 in critical care.

Fifteen more people have died of the virus, raising the provincial death toll to 1,596. The death toll in Interior Health remains at 131.

Public health officials are monitoring 11,781 people due to direct COVID-19 contact.

A total of 122,518 are considered fully recovered from the virus, or 93 per cent of all recorded cases.

Henry noted 1,877,330 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered, representing 41.5 per cent of all eligible British Columbians.
