KAMLOOPS — Kamloops Fire Rescue (KFR) reminded residents and visitors that bonfires within the city aren’t allowed.

Platoon Captain Darryl Cooper said KFR put out three bonfires within the city Saturday (April 24) evening – one in Mission Flats, one in Valleyview, and another on a beach across from the residential school building.

“People from out of town weren’t aware of our bylaws, there was no conflict or anything like that,” Cooper said. “Bonfires aren’t allowed within the city and they are subject to a fine if they’re caught.

“[Bonfires] seem to be turning up. The weather is nice, and they want to go out on the beach and have a nice fire, but they’re not allowed in the city. There have been some grass fires in and around the Kamloops area, so we want to keep things in check.”
