KAMLOOPS — A Kamloops Blazers center and local resident has been named an alternate captain for Team Canada at the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World U-18 Championship in Texas.

Logan Stankoven, 17, will wear an “A” over his heart on his red and white jersey. Shane Wright, a 17-year-old center from Ontario, was named captain, while Mason McTavish, an 18-year-old center from Ontario, was named the other alternate captain.

Stankoven left the Blazers on April 11 amidst their shortened B.C. Western Hockey League season prior to entering quarantine for the World U-18 Championship. He scored seven goals and three assists in six games.

Stankoven was given a “B” grade from NHL Central Scouting on Jan. 22, projecting him as a second or third round pick in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft.
