Kamloops residents asked to dig into their pantries for Saturday’s Rotary Food Drive

KAMLOOPS — Rotarians will be on the hunt for yellow bags Saturday (Apr. 24) during the annual Spring Rotary Food Drive.

The Kamloops Food Bank is in need of non-perishable items to stock the shelves for another season.

The bright yellow bags have gone out to the community, with hopes they will be filled with pantry items and set outside by 9:00 a.m. Saturday.

“People got door-to-door delivery of the yellow bags and McDonald’s had them distributed through their drive-thrus this time around,” said Food Bank Executive Director Bernadette Siracky, “so honestly, I think we have a chance at surpassing the record of 70,000 pounds. Here’s hoping.”

Due to the pandemic, the Food Bank is discouraging any additional volunteers from showing up to help sort.

However, there is another way people can help out. B.C. residents can purchase tickets for a 50/50 raffle.

“It is over $61,000 at the moment and we still have another two and a half weeks to sell tickets,” Siracky said. “It’s incredibly easy to buy a ticket, all you have to do is go on our website, kamloopsfoodbank.org, and there’s a big button that says click here to buy your 50/50 tickets. It’s that easy.”
