B.C. records another 1,001 COVID-19 cases; hospitalizations drop modestly

VICTORIA — B.C. is going into the weekend with another 1,001 new cases of COVID-19.

The totals are included in an update to the B.C. Centre for Disease Control website.

There have been 93 new cases found in Interior Health Friday (Apr. 23).

An overall total of 123,758 cases of COVID-19 have been detected in B.C. since the pandemic began, spread out as follows:

  • 30,762 — Vancouver Coastal (up by 215)
  • 70,916 — Fraser Health (up by 626)
  • 4,458 — Island Health (up by 26)
  • 10,458 — Interior Health (up by 93)
  • 6,976 — Northern Health (up by 39)
  • 188 — Reside outside of Canada (up by 2)

There are 8,842 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C., an increase of 109 from Thursday. There are 486 people in hospital — a decrease of 16 from Thursday’s record high — and 160 in critical care.

Within Interior Health, there are 802 active cases, an increase of six from Thursday. There are 32 people in hospital regionally, with 12 in critical care.

Four more people have died of COVID-19, raising the B.C. death toll to 1,554. The Interior Health death toll remains at 124.

A total of 113,139 people are considered fully recovered from the virus, or 91 per cent of all recorded cases.
