B.C. COVID-19 case count grows by 849; Interior Health sees 67 more cases

VICTORIA — B.C. has found another 849 cases of COVID-19 Tuesday (Apr. 20), including 67 within Interior Health.

The figures are included in an update provided by Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry.

There have now been 120,889 COVID-19 cases in B.C. overall, spread through the province thusly:

  • 30,106 — Vancouver Coastal (up by 247)
  • 69,133 — Fraser Health (up by 474)
  • 4,370 — Island Health (up by 29)
  • 10,128 — Interior Health (up by 67)
  • 6,869 — Northern Health (up by 31)
  • 181 — Reside outside of Canada (up by 1)

There are now 9,145 active cases of the virus in B.C., a decrease of 208 from Monday. There are 456 people in hospital, with 148 in intensive care – both new highs for B.C.’s pandemic.

Within Interior Health, there are 884 active cases, an increase of nine from Monday. There are 30 people in hospital with the virus in the Interior, and 11 in critical care.

One more person has died of COVID-19 raising the province’s death toll to 1,539. The death toll in Interior Health remains at 122.

There are 13,679 people under active public health monitoring because they have been directly exposed to COVID-19.

Another 109,973 people are considered fully recovered from the virus, or 91 per cent of all confirmed cases.

A total of 1,414,644 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in the province so far.
