Wildfires emerge at Dick Hart Memorial Park and Tranquille River

KAMLOOPS — A new wildfire was discovered at Dick Hart Memorial Park, northeast of Heffley Creek, on Saturday (April 17).

B.C. Wildfire Service (BCWS) said the wildfire is at 1.1 hectares. While the cause is unknown, BCWS previously told CFJC Today most of the fires are expected to be human-caused, due to a lack of lightning in the region.

As of publication, there are 11 active fires in the Kamloops region. Along with the Dick Hart Memorial Park fire and a 1.68-hectare near Tranquille River, two others are considered new. Five are under control and two are being held.

With temperatures heating up in the Interior, and no rainfall forecast in the near future, firefighters are urging residents to be extremely cautious.
