Two wildfires spark near Merritt — one at 500 hectares

MERRITT, B.C. — The BC Wildfire Service is reporting that two new wildfires have sparked near Merritt.
The closest one is South of town along the Coldwater River. The blaze is estimated at 3.0 hectares. The fire was first discovered on April 15 and the cause is listed as unknown.
The second fire is East of Merritt and much larger.
Located near Spahomin Creek, South of Douglas Lake, is estimated at 500 hectares. The fire was first discovered on April 15 and the cause is listed at unknown.
