B.C. records 1,168 new cases of COVID-19; record number in hospital

VICTORIA — The province is reporting another 1,168 cases of COVID-19 Wednesday (Apr. 14), including 105 new cases in Interior Health.

The numbers are contained in an update prepared by Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry.

There have now been 114,870 total cases in B.C., spread out as follows:

  • 28,603 — Vancouver Coastal (up by 341)
  • 65,548 — Fraser Health (up by 632)
  • 4,146 — Island Health (up by 64)
  • 9,771 — Interior Health (up by 105)
  • 6,621 — Northern Health (up by 26)
  • 179 — Reside outside of Canada (unchanged)

Henry reports 9,821 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C. Wednesday, an increase of 65 from Tuesday. There are 397 people in hospital — a new record for B.C. — and 120 in intensive care.

Within Interior Health, there are 944 active cases of the virus, up by 28 from Tuesday. There are 22 people in hospital and nine in critical care.

Six more people have died of the virus, lifting the provincial death toll to 1,521. None of the deaths took place in Interior Health, leaving the regional death toll at 120.

There are now 16,304 people under active public health monitoring due to direct COVID-19 contact.

The total of those considered fully recovered from the virus has reached 103,360, or 90 per cent of all recorded cases.

Meantime, Henry notes 1,190,832 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered.
