WILLIAMS LAKE, B.C. — B.C.’s police watchdog is recommending charges against a Williams Lake RCMP officer for their actions in trying to track down an intoxicated man last May.

According to a report from the Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of B.C., the incident happened on the evening of May 31, 2020.

A caller reported a man was intoxicated and in significant emotional distress, and had left a home on motorbike.

An officer found the man and tried to speak with him, but the man left on the motorcycle. Officers followed, leading to what the IIO terms as “an interaction… between the motorbike and the police vehicle a short time later.”
