B.C. surpasses 1,200 COVID-19 cases for second day in a row; 132 cases found in Interior Health

VICTORIA — For the second straight day, B.C. has recorded more than 1,200 new cases of COVID-19.

In her daily prepared update, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry reports 1,262 new cases of the virus Friday (Apr. 8), including 132 cases within Interior Health.

The new cases increase the overall B.C. case count to 109,540, spread out as follows:

  • 27,303 — Vancouver Coastal (up by 358)
  • 62,447 — Fraser Health (up by 638)
  • 3,872 — Island Health (up by 54)
  • 9,295 — Interior Health (up by 132)
  • 6,442 — Northern Health (up by 79)
  • 179 — Reside outside of Canada (up by 1)

There are now 9,574 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C., an increase of 390 from Thursday, with 332 in hospital and 102 in intensive care.

Within Interior Health, there are 833 active cases of the virus, a jump of 73 from Thursday. There are 23 people in hospital and nine in critical care.

Two more people have died of the virus, raising the province’s death toll to 1,495. The Interior Health death toll remains at 118.

The total number of variant cases confirmed in B.C. has increased to 4,111, with 105 of them still active.

Health officials are monitoring 15,673 people who have had direct contact with COVID-19-positive cases.

A further 98,336 people are considered fully recovered, or 90 per cent of all confirmed cases.

Meantime, the province has distributed 1,025,019 doses of COVID-19 vaccine, passing the 1-million mark today.
