SICAMOUS — A 73-year-old man and a 46-year-old woman tragically died on Highway 1 Tuesday (April 6) afternoon.

B.C. RCMP attended the scene of a two-vehicle head-on collision on Highway 1, the main route of the Trans Canada Highway through B.C., approximately seven kilometres east of Sicamous.

Police said the investigation found the 73-year-old man in a westbound pickup truck from Sicamous crossed the centre line, colliding with the 46-year-old woman in a sedan heading eastbound from Salmon Arm.

There were no other occupants of the vehicles and police said road and weather conditions were not contributing factors.

The Regina Pats Hockey Club of the Western Hockey League revealed early on Wednesday (April 7) that one of the deceased in the Sicamous crash was Garth Bedard, grandfather of player Connor Bedard.

Anyone with information about the collision or has dash camera footage is encouraged to contact RCMP Traffic Services out of Golden at (250) 344-2221.
