Toronto FC up for CONCACAF Champions League challenge of Mexico’s Club Leon
Toronto FC kicks off its 2021 season in deep water Wednesday, taking on Club Leon in Mexico in the first leg of their Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League round-of-16 tie.
The timing of the tournament favours the in-season Mexicans, as does the altitude (1,815 metres) in Leon.
But Toronto captain Michael Bradley, like coach Chris Armas, isn’t interested in the negatives.
“It’s normal the first game of the season that nobody’s going to be at their best or their fittest or their sharpest. But that’s not an excuse,” said Bradley. “And nobody here is thinking about that in any way.
