RCMP say downtown Kamloops stabbing took place shortly after fight; call for dashcam footage

KAMLOOPS — RCMP say a downtown Kamloops stabbing that left a man seriously injured Wednesday night (Mar. 31) could have stemmed from a fight a short time earlier.

In a news release, Cst. Crystal Evelyn says RCMP were called to the area of Sixth Avenue and Victoria Street at about 6:22 p.m., finding a man suffering serious, life-threatening stab wounds. The victim was rushed to hospital and is in stable condition after treatment.

About 15 minutes before the stabbing report, police were called about a fight between two men taking place not far from where the stabbing took place.

Now, investigators believe the two incidents involve the same two participants. They do not believe the incident was random and say it’s unlikely that the public is at risk.

As the fight happened during the daylight and in a busy, downtown area, Evelyn says investigators hope the public can help them identify a suspect. They are asking for anyone who was driving downtown between 6:00 and 6:30 p.m. Wednesday who has any dashcam footage from their drive to contact Kamloops RCMP.

“Investigators are looking to speak with anyone who may have seen, heard, captured surveillance of, or know anything about what transpired yesterday,” said Evelyn in the release.
