After record-setting Wednesday, B.C. COVID-19 case count decreases to 832 Thursday

VANCOUVER — After setting a new daily record Wednesday (Mar. 31), B.C.’s COVID-19 case count dropped a day later.

In a briefing Thursday, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry announced 832 new cases of the virus, including 42 in Interior Health.

The new cases raise the total found in B.C. to 100,880, spread through the province as follows:

  • 24,540 — Vancouver Coastal (up by 310)
  • 58,208 — Fraser Health (up by 388)
  • 3,377 — Island Health (up by 53)
  • 8,587 — Interior Health (up by 42)
  • 6,043 — Northern Health (up by 39)
  • 176 — Reside outside of Canada (unchanged)

Henry reported 7,571 active cases of COVID-19 Thursday, up by 166 from Wednesday. There are 296 people in hospital in B.C. with 79 in critical or intensive care.

Within Interior Health, there are 517 active cases of the virus, with 16 people in hospital and eight in critical care.

Five more people have died of COVID-19, increasing the province’s death toll to 1,463. There have been 115 deaths confirmed within Interior Health.

Health officials are reporting 90 newly identified variant cases over the past two days.

Henry noted 787,649 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been injected into British Columbians so far.
