RCMP weekend calls included alleged assaults, hatchet seizure, and arrest of wanted man

KAMLOOPS — Kamloops RCMP officers responded to 355 calls for service this past weekend. Here are some of the more notable calls.

Police say a 30-year-old Kamloops man was arrested Friday morning (Mar. 26) after a reported assault. Just before 6 a.m that day, the RCMP Detachment was contacted about an alleged assault at a home in the 3000-block of Bank Road.

Officers arrived on scene at the suspect’s home and arrested him without incident. He was released with a court date, pending the investigation’s conclusion.

A teenager was arrested this weekend after another person was allegedly assaulted with a rock.

RCMP say on Saturday (Mar. 27) officers responded to a reported assault involving a rock that was allegedly thrown at someone in the 1500-block of Versatile Drive.

Police found and arrested the suspect, who was released with a court date related to potential charges.

Mounties seized a hatchet from a home Sunday morning (Mar. 28) after a reported disturbance involving weapons in the Westsyde area.

RCMP responded to a report of someone yelling “gun” and “put the weapon down” near a home on Beachmount Crescent just after midnight. Officers detained a group of people in a vehicle who were trying to leave the home. A hatchet was found on the front lawn, but none of the people involved claims it as theirs, and it was seized by police.

A subsequent investigation revealed a consensual fight had occurred and that no firearm had been presented.

RCMP wound up arresting a wanted man on Friday morning (Mar. 26) while responding to a report of an unwanted person in front of a local business.

Around 9 a.m Friday, officers were called to a business in the 2100 block of the East Trans Canada Highway after receiving a report of an unwanted person in the area. The man turned out to be wanted on a warrant out of Cranbrook.

45-year-old Stacey Dean Willard was arrested and released with a May court date.
