One dead in South Cariboo avalanche
HORSEFLY, B.C. — One person has died in an avalanche on Eureka Peak, east of Horsefly and west of Wells Gray Provincial Park.
South Cariboo Search and Rescue (SCSAR) volunteers were notified of the slide at about 4:00 p.m. Monday (Mar. 29). RCMP in Williams Lake were called a few hours later.
A group of snowmobilers were riding in the area when the slide occurred, burying a 37-year-old man who has not been recovered.
SCSAR members flew in on a helicopter but could not land because the site was completely buried. They did detect a transponder in the area and spoke with witnesses.
