B.C.’s COVID-19 case count grows by 840; 320 new variant cases identified

VICTORIA — B.C. has found another 840 cases of COVID-19 Tuesday (Mar. 30), and a concerning 320 newly-identified variant cases.

The totals were contained in an update prepared by Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry.

There were 67 cases found within Interior Health.

B.C. has now seen 99,035 cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic began, spread out thusly:

  • 23,845 — Vancouver Coastal (up by 265)
  • 57,362 — Fraser Health (up by 421)
  • 3,277 — Island Health (up by 39)
  • 8,481 — Interior Health (up by 67)
  • 5,944 — Northern Health (up by 46)
  • 176 — Reside outside of Canada (up by 2)

The active case load in B.C. has reached 7,062, up by 160 from Monday, and includes 312 people in hospital with 78 in intensive care.

Within Interior Health, there are 479 active cases of COVID-19, up by 32 from Monday. There are 17 people in hospital including six in critical care.

There were no new deaths from COVID-19 Tuesday, leaving the provincial death toll at 1,455 and the Interior Health death toll at 114.

The 320 new variant cases bring the total in B.C. to 2,553, including 313 that are still active.

A total of 11,164 people are under active public health monitoring due to direct COVID-19 contact.

Another 90,401 people are considered fully recovered from the virus, or 91 per cent of all recorded cases.

The province has administered 724,193 doses of COVID-19 vaccine, with appointment booking now open to everyone age 73 or older.
