Heavy snow and gusty winds expected for Coquihalla Sunday

A weather warning is in effect for the Nicola region.

On the Coquihalla Highway between Hope to Merritt, snowfall between 15 to 25 cm is expected before snow tapers off this evening. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.

A spring storm system crossing southern BC will bring heavy snow and gusty winds to high elevation passes today and tonight.

Initially, snow levels will be nearer to the summits but are expected to drop through the morning. Gusty winds are also forecast through the day and could generate local areas of blowing snow leading to reduced visibilities at times. Weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions.

Meanwhile the South Thompson and Shuswap areas can see winds reaching 60 and 80 km/h at times today.
