Merritt crime rundown includes bomb threat, weapon sentencing and impaired driving

MERRITT, B.C. — The Merritt RCMP weekly media report contains information about a bomb threat to a local convenience store, a Merritt man wanted province wide, and both a sentencing update and new charge approval in the courts.

Bomb threat leads to arrest

A 35-year-old woman was arrested after an alleged bomb threat.

Officers searched a business at the intersection of Voght Street and Nicola Avenue on Tuesday (March 23) but didn’t find an explosive device.

RCMP arrested a 35-year-old woman who allegedly made the threat and is a suspect for multiple shoplifting incidents over the past week.

She’s set to appear in court on July 20, 2021 facing multiple charges.

Merritt man sentenced after brandishing a knife

Jackie Adams received a conditional discharge, one-year probation, and paid a victim surcharges of $100 after a knife brandish incident in June, 2020.

An individual and their children called 9-1-1 saying a drunk driver was following them and eventually brandished a knife at them.

Adams pleaded guilty to possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose on March 17, while the Crown dropped a charge of assault with a weapon.

Merritt man charged with impaired driving

Cole Bangsund was charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and impaired operation with a blood alcohol concentration over 80.

Witnesses followed Bangsund to his residence, where he was later arrested by RCMP, after allegedly driving in the downtown area while impaired.

Bangsund is set to appear in Merritt Law Courts on April 6, 2021.
