Adult residents of Logan Lake to receive COVID-19 vaccine in three-day clinic in April

LOGAN LAKE, B.C. — The wait time for a COVID-19 vaccine has just decreased significantly for Logan Lake residents. Interior Health has bumped the community up on the list for an ages 18-plus immunization clinic.

“Originally we had been slated in for June/July, so it was welcome news for sure to have us bumped up a little sooner,” said Logan Lake Mayor Robin Smith.

The clinic will be held in the curling rink of Logan Lake’s Recreation Centre from April 13-to-16.

Some residents have begun booking their appointments and many are pleased to see their community prioritized.

“I think it’s fabulous that we don’t have to go into Kamloops to get our shots and I’ve booked my shot for April,” said one resident.

“I think that’s an excellent idea,” said a resident who has already received her vaccine. “That way they get everyone done at once and it’s not dragged out over six months.”

Interior Health says it is setting up similar immunization clinics in several smaller communities across the region.

“I think we are currently looking at — the latest I’ve seen is communities under 2,500 people that we were addressing in that way to make sure we get the whole community done at the same time,” said Chief Medical Health Officer Dr. Albert de Villiers. “It’s just logistically easier for us and we know some of the communities are really closely linked as well, so we want to make sure we actually get them vaccinated in the proper way.”

Smith says Logan Lake has a population of around 2,300 people. She says it’s nice to know Interior Health cares for communities as small as hers.

“Being from a small rural community a lot of times we feel like we get a little bit lost in the shuffle with services and things like that, so we’re really grateful to Interior Health for sort of putting us at the front of the line so-to-speak,” she said. “It’s welcome news for the community and we’re really excited.”
