Police try to deal with targeted crime

KAMLOOPS — RCMP are trying to keep a handle on crime related to gangs and the drug trade, but it’s becoming a tough battle.

More and more targeted crimes are happening, and they’re not all confined to the Lower Mainland.

A portion of Highway 97 in West Kelowna was closed for hours yesterday (Sunday) while police investigated what appears to be a targeted fatal shooting. RCMP say it happened in the early morning and hours later a bicycle with a trailer was still sitting on the highway. The coroner is investigating the death of the man as well.

And in another case, not believed related at this point, Kelowna RCMP were at an apartment in Rutland in the wake of a shooting yesterday. A woman appeared at Kelowna General Hospital with serious injuries from a gunshot wound.

Police say the victims of a double homicide who were found in a burned home in Richmond were brothers involved in the gang conflict in the Lower Mainland. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team says the bodies of 25-year-old Chaten Dhindsa and 23-year-old Joban Dhindsa were found after a structure fire early Friday. Detective Lara Jansen says it’s believed to be a targeted incident.
