VICTORIA — B.C. is reporting another 1,506 new cases of COVID-19 over a three-day span.

Provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry says ten more people died of COVID-19 over the weekend. The new cases were spread as follows:

  • 555 new cases between Friday (Mar. 12) and Saturday (Mar. 13)
  • 491 new cases between Saturday (Mar. 13) and Sunday (Mar. 14)
  • 460 new cases between Sunday (Mar. 14) and Monday (Mar. 15)

That brings the B.C. total to 88,373 cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic arrived, spread out as follows:

  • 20,664 — Vancouver Coastal (up by 382)
  • 51,701 — Fraser Health (up by 840)
  • 2,761 — Island Health (up by 75)
  • 7,857 — Interior Health (up by 80)
  • 5,230 — Northern Health (up by 129)
  • 160 — Reside outside of Canada (unchanged)

Dr. Henry says there are now 4,987 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C. Of those, 269 people are in hospital with 76 in critical or intensive care.

More than 9,000 people are under active public health monitoring in the province. So far 81,890 people have recovered from the virus.

In addition, there have been 163 new cases that have been confirmed retrospectively as variants of concern.

“That means of the total we’ve had in the last few months, 880 of those cases have been people who have been infected with one of these variants,” says Dr. Henry. “Of the total cases of variants, 195 are still active cases and the remaining are past the infectious period.”

Dr. Henry also stated today (March. 15) the AstraZeneca shipments will be used to immunize specific populations.

The initial shipment will be used to protect workers in industries where full use of personal protective equipment and barriers can be challenging, outbreaks and clusters have occurred or are ongoing, and workers must live or work in congregate settings.

Workers who will be eligible include those employed by food processing plants, agricultural operations with congregate worker accommodations, including farms, nurseries and greenhouses; large industrial camps, and more.
