KAMLOOPS — Thompson Rivers University (TRU) has been chosen as one of 12 schools in Canada that will receive funding to increase inclusion on campus.

According to a TRU news release, TRU has received a $400,000 grant from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), an arm of the federal government. The grant will be used to create an equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) office at the school.

NSERC says its goal in awarding the grant is “foster EDI in Canadian post-secondary research by identifying and eliminating systemic barriers that impede the career advancement, recruitment and retention of underrepresented and/or disadvantaged groups.”

TRU says the new EDI office will work toward creating a more equitable learning and working environment at the school by collecting data to inform an evidence-based approach.
