Employment rises in Canada in February

KAMLOOPS — The unemployment rate in Canada dropped in February, dropping 1.2 points to 8.2 percent. That’s the lowest rate since March of 2020.

The number of people employed in the country is up 1.4 percent. Those working in retail trade increased 6.1 percent, accommodation and food service employment was up 7.8 percent.

The B.C. unemployment rate dropped 1.1 percent to 6.9 percent, but still above the pre-covid rate of 5.1 percent. B.C.’s rate is 3rd best in the country, behind Quebec and Manitoba.
