Senior Kamloops-Thompson School District staff reviewing proposed dress code guideline changes

KAMLOOPS — New dress code guidelines for the Kamloops-Thompson School District are under review by senior staff.

The district’s dress code policies were put under the microscope last month when Norkam student Karis Wilson was told to leave class despite wearing a turtleneck beneath a sleeveless dress. The student and her father made their displeasure public, and that led to a group of students walking out of their classes in support of Wilson.

Each school develops its own dress code in compliance with a set of guidelines set out by the district.

In an update to the SD73 Board of Education this week, Superintendent Terry Sullivan noted a review of those guidelines was launched about three months ago, well prior to the Norkam incident.
