Behind the Scenes Buzz with Stephen Colbert and Gwyneth Paltrow

Mar 10, 2021 | 6:09 AM

BAFTA NOMS MAKE HISTORY: Nomadland and Rocks grabbed seven nominations from BAFTA, leading the most diverse field of nods in history. Chloé Zhao and Sarah Gavron’s works are both up for best director. Nomadland was one of six nominations in the best film category alongside The FatherThe MauritanianPromising Young Woman and The Trial Of The Chicago 7.  The Father, Mank, Minari and Promising Young Woman snagged six nominations each. The Dig and The Mauritanian garnered five nominations each. The awards themselves will be held virtually on Sunday 11 April.

STEPHEN COLBERT TO LOOK BACK: Stephen Colbert will review this momentous year with a special episode of The Late Show Friday at 11:35 p.m. EST, CBS has announced. The episode will mark the one-year anniversary of the show’s last episode from the Ed Sullivan Theater and will consider the impact of the pandemic on the world. Dr. Anthony Fauci, White House chief medical adviser and director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, will be his featured guest on Friday.

ROGUE HEROES SET: Casting is set for SAS: Rogue Heroes, a six part drama from Peaky Blinder’s Steven KnightConnor Swindells (Sex EducationVigil) will play David Stirling, with Jack O’Connell (SkinsThe North Water) as Paddy Mayne, Alfie Allen (Jojo RabbitGame of Thrones) as Jock Lewes, and Sofia Boutella (Modern LoveAtomic Blonde) as Eve. Dominic West (The WireAppropriate Adult) will play Lieutenant Colonel Wrangel Clarke. The series, made for BBC One, is based on Ben Macintyre’s best-selling book about the Special Forces unit during World War II.

BRITS TUNED IN: Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s blockbuster interview with Oprah Winfrey scored 11.3 million viewers in the U.K. That makes it the biggest TV show in Britain outside the news. In the U.S., around 17.1 million people tuned in.

GWYNETH PALTROW TALKS TROLLS: When global pharma brand Merz Aesthetics approached Gwyneth Paltrow about serving as the face of anti-wrinkle line Xeomin, she tells The Hollywood Reporter that she was in. She said: “I hope to continue to age from the inside out. What I mean by that is I hope to keep all of the wisdom and experience that compounds — that is what makes you a more interesting person as you age. I would love for that to continue to happen. At the same time, reevaluate is a good word. I would love to be one of those amazing French women that never does anything and doesn’t color their hair while letting nature do its thing but I’m probably a little too vain to back off that much. I’ll always try to find a balance of looking like myself and being healthy with a little help here and there.” Paltrow also discussed the online hate she faces: “The more vitriol and opinions [that come], the more you just have to realize that they’re an unresolved person who is getting a second of relief by being mean about somebody else. We, as women, just have to keep cultivating other women, our daughters and the women that are coming up behind us with this idea that we’re all enough. We’re all okay and there’s enough for all of us. We don’t need to compete because the more that women really lift themselves up, the better the world is.”
